Be Bold – In The Face of Change

Reading the news can be a little depressing nowadays. As a Christian, I am feeling the pressure now more than ever, to speak up against the current narratives that are framing believers in Christ as small-mined, racists, alt-right (not sure I even know what this means), and anti-LGBTQAI+. Fortunately, for real believers in Christ, this stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth.

First, why are Christians being lumped into belonging to one political party? Most Christians I know are either Democrats, Centrists or at the very least moderate Republicans. There is a growing movement in the media and on college campuses too in essence “kill two birds with one stone” in lumping in Christians with the Republican party. With the country divided after the last election, I’m sure this is a deliberate attempt to coerce young adults away from a belief in Christ by associating Christianity with Republicans and MAGA.

Second, Christ calls all believers to LOVE thy neighbor (Mark 12:31 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+12:31&version=NIV ). Given the turmoil of recent times, LOVE is definitely in short supply. We should always treat everybody with respect and kindness, no matter their lifestyle or belief. Some of my best friends are proud members of the LGBTQ community and hanging out with them is a blast! Believers need to remember that Christ loved us enough to die on the cross the least we can do is show love, respect, and understanding for all people.

"We don't need more yelling and screaming, but Christians do need to be bold in their faith"

I hope that more Christians rise-up and, if nothing else, live the life resembling Christ. We don’t need more yelling and screaming, but Christians do need to be BOLD in their faith and in confronting labels that paint Christians as haters! Remember, Christ was mocked, spit on, beaten, whipped, and nailed to the cross paying the ultimate sacrifice for us. Be Bold!
